PHNOM PENH, Dec. 18 Kyodo - Cambodia has sent a letter of protest against Thai soldiers who shot five Cambodian women, leaving one dead at the scene. The protest note sent to the Thai government, a copy seen by the media on Thursday, said “The Royal Government of Cambodia strongly protests against the barbarian acts committed by the Thai solders, which obviously violate humanitarian principles.” In the note dated Wednesday , Cambodia also asked the Thai authorities to stop these “atrocious acts against innocent Cambodian people” and “respect the recent agreements” by the leaders of the two countries. The note said that on Dec. 9, five Cambodian women -- a mother, her two daughters and two other women living in O’smach district in Cambodia’s northwestern province Uddor Meanche -- crossed into Thai territory without knowledge of the borderline to collect wild mushrooms and cassava.
