Cambodia-Thailand commit to seek solution for mutual benefit on Overlapping Claims Area (OCA) offshore

PHNOM PENH, Dec. 29 (PRU) – Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Dr. Sok An, Minister in Charge of the Office of the Council of Ministers, said in the meeting that Cambodia and Thai will start a new phase of negotiation concerning the OCA, a move is welcomed by Thai Minister of Energy, His Excellency Pichai Naripthaphan who led a 10-member-delegation including representatives of PTT energy and gas company and the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT).

His Excellency Dr. Sok An, who is also the Chairman of Cambodian National Petroleum Authority (CNPA), said “now we are trying to push our project on how to extract our black gold for the development of the two countries.”

His Excellency Energy Minister Pichai Naripthaphan assured His Excellency Dr. Sok An that “Thailand will treat Cambodia equally and we work as partner in a long term”.

“We are able to cooperate many things we are trying to solve problems of our OCA and we will look to do business with Cambodia,” His Excellency Energy Minister Pichai Naripthaphan said in the meeting.

Thai Minister of Energy, His Excellency Pichai Naripthaphan, assured Cambodia that “sooner or later we, both countries, will find a solution”.

“I am very sure that we can work out and to bring oil and gas for the benefit of our two countries,” said Thai Minister of Energy.

In a wrap up of the meeting both sides would like to see this OCA will benefit the two people and countries and agreed that this process will need more time.

Thai Minister of Energy, His Excellency Pichai Naripthaphan, said that Thailand would provide training for Cambodian officials in the fields of oil and gas so as to help Cambodia to handle such industry.

His Excellency Dr. Sok An, in response, said that Cambodia will send a certain number of trainees to Thailand in the future.

Both sides also hailed the two projects of coal power plants in Koh Kong province for mutual benefit of the two countries as part of the electricity production will export to Thailand’s provinces which borders with Koh Kong.

Cambodia’s Minister of Industry, Mines and Energy, His Excellency Suy Sem, and officials of Cambodian National Petroleum Authority (CNPA) were also present in the meeting.

Cambodia and Japan commit to preserve heritage site as oil and gas exploration begins in Preah Vihear

PHNOM PENH, Jan. 30, 2012 – The Japanese Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation (JOGMEC) agreed with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Sok An in a meeting on Monday that the historic temples of Preah Vihear province must be protected and conserved. H.E. Dr. Sok An, Minister in Charge of the Office of the Council of Ministers, told Akira Suzuki, Executive Director and member of the Board of JOGMEC, that there are more than 200 historic sites in the province, including the Temple of Preah Vihear. Dr. Sok An said that it is very important that such cultural heritage be cared for so as to attract more tourists to the area. Already there are 2,000 tourists per day visiting Preah Vihear province. The province is also rich in mineral resources and fertile land for agriculture, he said. Cambodia and Malaysia look to further cooperation in agriculture, tourism and education sectors

PHNOM PENH, February 20, 2014 – Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Sok An and Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister shared views on Thursday that both countries can tap mutual benefits and complement each other. Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Tan Sri Muhyiddin informed H.E. Sok An that, “Malaysia is good at rubber plantations, palm oil, and technology and the key is how best to work with Cambodia.” He said that Malaysian companies are interested in investing in processing rubber resin and can make good furniture from old rubber trees in Cambodia. Malaysian state run companies can also explore energy, generation, hydro-power plants and infrastructures such as roads in Cambodia. “We need feasibility studies first before the next steps can be taken.
