Cambodia Greatly Praised by the International Community
As a result, on 4 July 2012, the Committee unanimously decided in favour of the Kingdom of Cambodia’s candidacy the chairperson of the World Heritage Committee in 2013 and the host of the 37th Session.
By selecting Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, following Brasilia, Paris and Saint Petersburg, to be the venue of the 37th Session, the Committee has given great a honour to Cambodia and highly appreciates her thousand years-long civilization. This contributes significantly to strengthening and promoting the image of the Kingdom of Cambodia on the international stage. Indeed, this decision reconfirms the recognition of:
2. the active roles played by Cambodia in international affairs, in particular in UNESCO and the World Heritage Committee in which Cambodia has been a member for three years; and
3. the capability of Cambodia to maintain political stability and to ensure security and safety in hosting international conferences as well as to provide warm hospitality to international delegates.
Moreover, the decision, which honours Cambodia as the host, clearly reflects the international community’s trust and confidence in the Royal Government of Cambodia’s efforts and achievements in the political, economic and cultural sectors.
This is a universal gathering in which nations of the world converge to discuss and exchange views and experiences, aimed at promoting heritage preservation and sustainable development, and to show respect for heritage of the humanity.
