Phnom Penh welcomes the ASEAN-India Car Rally 2012!

Sometimes the enormity of the ASEAN-India Car Rally 2012 strikes us at unexpected times, like right now.
Having travelled through five countries, the organisation of the Rally has been smoother than anything you can possibly dream of. Of course, with the involvement of some of the best organisations in this venture, there’s hardly any scope for the AICR to turn out to be anything but a success.

As we travelled from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh, the 470 kilometres of greenery and great roads fascinated us every minute of the journey. This entire region, from a tourist’s point of view, is such a treasure! The Cambodian experience was only enhanced with the warm welcome we received from children who waved at our convoy from the streets whenever we passed. A big thank you to them!

 

 We stopped for lunch at a comfortable restaurant, Solar Café that served us a meal that included deep fried crickets and tarantulas! Just when we thought we couldn’t be more enthralled by everything happening in Cambodia, this unique cuisine gave us another experience. But that’s what the AICR is about after all – experiencing cultures as closely as possible!

 

 After lunch, we headed to the capital and largest city in Cambodia – Phnom Penh. What greeted us was Hotel Cambodiana, by the riverside! The participants of the AICR couldn’t disguise their joy. And yes, we’d been assigned river-facing rooms! The amazing view held our attention till our stomachs finally took over, and we headed for the pre-arranged Indian cultural programme and dinner.

 

 The stunning Indian performance at Chaktamouk Centre truly took our tiredness away. The fact that one country takes the effort to imbibe the culture of another country and does so astoundingly well, is inspiring and heart-warming. As we head to dinner, given our experience in the afternoon, we can’t wait but wonder what’s on the menu!

Cambodia and Japan commit to preserve heritage site as oil and gas exploration begins in Preah Vihear

PHNOM PENH, Jan. 30, 2012 – The Japanese Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation (JOGMEC) agreed with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Sok An in a meeting on Monday that the historic temples of Preah Vihear province must be protected and conserved. H.E. Dr. Sok An, Minister in Charge of the Office of the Council of Ministers, told Akira Suzuki, Executive Director and member of the Board of JOGMEC, that there are more than 200 historic sites in the province, including the Temple of Preah Vihear. Dr. Sok An said that it is very important that such cultural heritage be cared for so as to attract more tourists to the area. Already there are 2,000 tourists per day visiting Preah Vihear province. The province is also rich in mineral resources and fertile land for agriculture, he said. Cambodia and Malaysia look to further cooperation in agriculture, tourism and education sectors

PHNOM PENH, February 20, 2014  – Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Sok An and Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister shared views on Thursday that both countries can tap mutual benefits and complement each other. Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Tan Sri Muhyiddin informed H.E. Sok An that, “Malaysia is good at rubber plantations, palm oil, and technology and the key is how best to work with Cambodia.” He said that Malaysian companies are interested in investing in processing rubber resin and can make good furniture from old rubber trees in Cambodia. Malaysian state run companies can also explore energy, generation, hydro-power plants and infrastructures such as roads in Cambodia. “We need feasibility studies first before the next steps can be taken.
