India looks to assist Cambodia in areas of vocational training, English language and IT

PHNOM PENH, 2 Oct. 2013 – Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister H.E Dr. Sok An welcomed India‘s offer to train Cambodia in the areas of skilled jobs, teaching English as well as provide IT training, a move that will contribute to improving human resources for Cambodia's social development.

Indian Ambassador Dinesh K. Patnaik said in the meeting that he is looking to establish a center of excellence for IT in Siem Reap. “We have set up one here already at the Council of Ministers with NiDA. Another one has been set up in Sihanoukville province. But the one in Siem Reap has been delayed because of the relocation of the governor office and now the new site has not yet been identified,” said the Ambassador.

In response, H.E. Sok An said Cambodia will offer India one villa to establish the center of excellence for IT network in Siem Reap.

Ambassador Patnaik said, “We have an English language-training center in the Royal Academy which we want to shift to the Royal School of Administration”. That move is also welcomed by H.E Dr. Sok An.

The Deputy Prime Minister shared views with H.E Dinesh Patnaik about the Cambodia-India entrepreneurship center, vocational training center, teaching English and IT. Both sides looked to set up the center for training in Takeo province where Cambodia already has five buildings in place.

Ambassador Patnaik told the Deputy Prime Minister that India plans to inaugurate its textile museum built in Siem Reap in December this year.

India is also considering to restore another historic temple of Preah Khan-Kompong Svay in Siem Reap. The restoration of Ta Prohm temple by India has almost been concluded, said the diplomat.

H.E Sok An said that Cambodia is looking for overseas assistance to develop the Eco-Global Museum in Preah Vihear which is not far from Siem Reap because the road is good and well-connected from the home of Angkor.

H.E. Sok An told the diplomat about the nature of the opposition party, the CNRP which keeps lying to the public about the electoral process in the last general election in July in which the ruling party of CPP won the majority of the polls. But “CNRP is manipulating the electoral process,” said the Deputy Prime Minister. CPP received 68 out of total 123 parliamentarian seats. CNRP gained 55.

Cambodia and Japan commit to preserve heritage site as oil and gas exploration begins in Preah Vihear

PHNOM PENH, Jan. 30, 2012 – The Japanese Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation (JOGMEC) agreed with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Sok An in a meeting on Monday that the historic temples of Preah Vihear province must be protected and conserved. H.E. Dr. Sok An, Minister in Charge of the Office of the Council of Ministers, told Akira Suzuki, Executive Director and member of the Board of JOGMEC, that there are more than 200 historic sites in the province, including the Temple of Preah Vihear. Dr. Sok An said that it is very important that such cultural heritage be cared for so as to attract more tourists to the area. Already there are 2,000 tourists per day visiting Preah Vihear province. The province is also rich in mineral resources and fertile land for agriculture, he said. Cambodia and Malaysia look to further cooperation in agriculture, tourism and education sectors

PHNOM PENH, February 20, 2014 – Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Sok An and Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister shared views on Thursday that both countries can tap mutual benefits and complement each other. Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Tan Sri Muhyiddin informed H.E. Sok An that, “Malaysia is good at rubber plantations, palm oil, and technology and the key is how best to work with Cambodia.” He said that Malaysian companies are interested in investing in processing rubber resin and can make good furniture from old rubber trees in Cambodia. Malaysian state run companies can also explore energy, generation, hydro-power plants and infrastructures such as roads in Cambodia. “We need feasibility studies first before the next steps can be taken.
