Toast by H.E. Dr. Sok An, Deputy Prime Minister, at the 15th Anniversary Dinner Reception of The China, Hong Kong and Macau Expatriate and Business Association in Cambodia

- His Excellency Pan Guangxue, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Kingdom of Cambodia,

- Lok Oknha Yum Sui Sang, Chairman of the China, Hong Kong and Macau Expatriate and Business Association in Cambodia,

- Excellencies, Distinguished Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen,

My wife and I have a great pleasure to be here with Excellencies, Ladies and Gentlemen this evening to celebrate the 15^thanniversary of the China, Hong Kong and Macau Expatriate and Business Association in Cambodia (CHKMEBA). I would like to express my appreciation to the Association for its efforts during the past 15 years to promote investment opportunities and potentials in Cambodia to business communities in Hong Kong and Macau, as well as its efforts to facilitate business operations and trade activities of investors from Hong Kong and Macau in Cambodia.

Having existed for 15 years now and attracted more than 70 corporate members, mainly from such various industries as clothing, footwear, printing, chemicals, plastics, paper products, machineries, electrical equipment, the Association is indeed a crucial contributor to the development of Cambodia’s industrial sector, which in turn contributes significantly to the country’s economic development. The Association’s efforts to safeguard the legal rights and interests of its members; to provide information on laws, regulations, policies, investment environment, and living conditions in Cambodia to the investors from Hong Kong and Macau; and to assist its members in resolving some major issues constitute its main mission to support business operations of its members in Cambodia.

In addition, the valuable contribution of the Association to maintaining and enhancing traditional friendship between the Kingdom of Cambodia and the People’s Republic of China reflects its active participation with the Government of the People’s Republic of China in further strengthening relationship between the two countries for the sake of their peoples. Taking this momentous opportunity, I would like to extend my high appreciation and profound gratitude to the Government and People of the People’s Republic of China for continuously cooperating and supporting the Cambodia’s socio-economic development.

On this solemn occasion, may I graciously invite Excellencies, Ladies and Gentlemen to toast in order to:

- Congratulate the traditional and long-lasting friendship between the Kingdom of Cambodia and the People’s Republic of China; may the relations between the two countries become more harmonious from one generation to another;

- Wish the Association success in all its missions; and

- Wish Excellencies, Ladies and Gentlemen who are present here good health, success and happiness.

Cambodia and Japan commit to preserve heritage site as oil and gas exploration begins in Preah Vihear

PHNOM PENH, Jan. 30, 2012 – The Japanese Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation (JOGMEC) agreed with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Sok An in a meeting on Monday that the historic temples of Preah Vihear province must be protected and conserved. H.E. Dr. Sok An, Minister in Charge of the Office of the Council of Ministers, told Akira Suzuki, Executive Director and member of the Board of JOGMEC, that there are more than 200 historic sites in the province, including the Temple of Preah Vihear. Dr. Sok An said that it is very important that such cultural heritage be cared for so as to attract more tourists to the area. Already there are 2,000 tourists per day visiting Preah Vihear province. The province is also rich in mineral resources and fertile land for agriculture, he said. Cambodia and Malaysia look to further cooperation in agriculture, tourism and education sectors

PHNOM PENH, February 20, 2014 – Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Sok An and Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister shared views on Thursday that both countries can tap mutual benefits and complement each other. Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Tan Sri Muhyiddin informed H.E. Sok An that, “Malaysia is good at rubber plantations, palm oil, and technology and the key is how best to work with Cambodia.” He said that Malaysian companies are interested in investing in processing rubber resin and can make good furniture from old rubber trees in Cambodia. Malaysian state run companies can also explore energy, generation, hydro-power plants and infrastructures such as roads in Cambodia. “We need feasibility studies first before the next steps can be taken.
